BIUFF Defines Its Philosophy with the "4U" Grand Prize: A Call for Authentic Cinema

The Berlin International Underground Film Festival (BIUFF) today unveiled the details of its foundational grand prize, the "4U" Trophy. Positioned at the heart of the festival's philosophy, this award seeks to redefine the concept of excellence in cinema and celebrate works that dare to remain authentic in the face of commercial pressures and censorship.

The "4U" will be BIUFF's ultimate honor, transcending all traditional categories to be awarded to only one singular work per edition. The prize will go to the film that most powerfully embodies all four of the festival's foundational principles: Uncensored, Uncompromising, Unconventional, and Unbound.

Amir Morsali, founder of BIUFF, stated, "In a world where success is often measured by box office sales or adherence to tired formulas, we want to define a different standard. The 4U award is not for the film that pleases everyone; it is for the film that is true to itself. It is a celebration of artistic courage and a filmmaker's commitment to their unique vision."

This award is not just a trophy; it is a statement. With this initiative, BIUFF establishes itself as a sanctuary for independent and defiant filmmakers who seek to create works that are honest, personal, and convention-breaking. The winner of this grand prize, in addition to receiving the trophy, will be honored as a representative of the BIUFF philosophy with an exclusive invitation to join the main festival jury for the following edition.

The call for entries for the first edition of BIUFF is open until December 15, 2025. All submitted projects will be automatically considered for this grand prize and all other festival awards.
