Captain Clown
Capitán payaso
Directed by Julián Mauricio Correa Cano
Years after finishing elementary school, Dario reunites with the eccentric teacher who left a lasting mark on his childhood. He then discovers that behind his games and the unforgettable "Capitan Clown" lies a moving story of love, loss, and a promise: to make children smile.
About the Film
Dario remembers a peculiar elementary school teacher who turned his classes into unexpected moments of joy through games, dances, and antics his students would never forget. Years later, now an adult, Dario meets him again and discovers the real reason behind his unusual way of teaching. After losing his son Lorenzo, the teacher chose to hold on to a promise; his son would be present every time he managed to make a child smile. From that moment on, every smile became a way of keeping Lorenzo alive. "Capitan Clown" which once seemed like nothing more than a playful act, finally reveals its true meaning, transforming grief into joy and absence into a memory that continues to live through others.

— Director’s statement
Captain Clown was born from a simple yet deeply human idea: even in the midst of pain, we can find a reason to bring happiness to others.
i wanted to tell a story that begins through the innocent eyes of a child and, over time, takes on a different meaning. What initially seems like nothing more than a teacher’s eccentric behavior ultimately reveals a story of love, absence, and memory.
For me, this short film is about how the people we love can remain present through what we do for others. The teacher transforms his loss into a promise: as long as he can make a child smile, Lorenzo will remain by his side.
My intention is to show that we can transform pain into love, absence into memory, and a smile into a way of keeping alive those who are no longer with us.
