Joshua Meszaros (1979) has studied journalism, French literature and sociology. Since 2019, he has been working in filmmaking, focusing on topics such as human rights, social inequalities, and environmental protection. His work explores social taboos and underrepresented perspectives, driven by the conviction that complex and uncomfortable subjects must be examined in order to be understood. Joshua believes that well-directed documentary films can open meaningful public discussions around these issues. He gained wider recognition with the documentaries “Tango with the Wolf” (2025), “Disorder” (2025) and with the silent short film, "The YouTuber" (2026). Joshua lives and works between Germany and Ireland.

My name is Joshua Meszaros, and I am the director of „Disorder”, my debut documentary film, shot in Germany and Hungary. The film features an anonymous interviewee and an addiction specialist. I believe that the society of modern day often develops a hostile perception of individuals living with addiction or impulse control disorders. These people are frequently socially excluded and met with contempt. To categorize them into stigmatized groups – subjected status loss and discrimination – has become a widespread attitude. This documentary highlights one of the key factors contributing to the development of impulse control disorders. The production of „Disorder” took 4 years. Building trust, confidence, and genuine relationship was essential to the project, and we met many times before filming began. Elements of Gonzo journalism and performative techniques helped me to develop this closeness, while the use of minimal and discreet equipment ensured a relaxed interview environment.
