Speechless

Alireza Nesaei, born in Iran in 1985, is a director, screenwriter, and assistant director based in Germany since 2020. He began film training at the Iranian Young Cinema Society in 2000 and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre. From 2006 to 2020, he directed and wrote several short, television, and documentary films, while also working as an assistant director and planning manager on major Iranian film and TV productions. Since 2022, he has been active in Germany’s film and theatre scene, serving on the Filmfest Trier jury, working as a photographer, directing theatre, and working at a German theatre.

As an Iranian filmmaker living in exile, Sprachlos is a deeply personal exploration of language loss, cultural displacement, and the unspoken grief of separation. This film is not only about forgetting words — it’s about how silence can shape identity, memory, and even movement. Darya’s story is mine, and that of many others.
