WATU - An Essayfilm

Tobias Bernt is an independent filmmaker from Magdeburg, Germany. He started filmmaking in his birthplace of Halberstadt around 10 years ago, but seriously concentrated on improving his craft since he started university. At the Otto-von-Guericke-University in Magdeburg he studies Media Literacy and created a diverse range of different films, from documentaries to feature short films. As for his bachelor thesis he has created "WATU", the culmination of all his filmmaking passion and so far aquired skills.

“WATU” has been a great passion project for me over the last years, bringing together over 12 years of experience in intercultural exchange projects with my huge love for documentary filmmaking. While a lot of people have supported the idea and were greatly interested, the whole film was produced only by me, completely independently, funded only by personal savings. This is the biggest film project that I have done to this day and the first I feel confident enough to share with a broader community. I only wish to share it with as many people as possible, as I feel for myself that it is the greatest honor for me as a filmmaker if people take the time to watch it and to hear their thoughts.
