A Statement from Amir Morsali, Founder of BIUFF: A Call for Fearless Stories; Submissions Officially Open

Today, with the official opening of the call for entries for the inaugural edition of the Berlin International Underground Film Festival (BIUFF), we take the first step in building a movement. On this occasion, Amir Morsali, the festival's Founder and Director, has released a personal statement.

A Statement from Amir Morsali:

"After twenty years of experience in the trenches of independent cinema, from producing under difficult circumstances to standing by projects that risked everything to tell their truth, I have repeatedly witnessed a harsh reality: many of the most audacious voices and authentic stories never get the chance to be seen. They get lost in the noise of commercial cinema and among festivals that are more concerned with selling awards than discovering talent.

BIUFF is my answer to this situation. This is not a festival; it is a statement.

Here in Berlin, a city that has always been a sanctuary for defiant voices, we have gathered to build a new sanctuary: a supportive ecosystem founded on authenticity and a commitment to the artist. We are not looking for films that satisfy algorithms; we are looking for works that challenge the rules. Our philosophy is summarized in our grand prize, the '4U' Trophy: we seek a cinema that is Uncensored, Uncompromising, Unconventional, and Unbound.

This festival is the crystallization of everything I have fought for all these years: supporting the artist, honoring the unseen art of production, and creating a platform where every independent voice, regardless of budget or resources, has a chance to shine.

Now, I issue this call not as an invitation, but as a call to arms. We are ready to see, hear, and celebrate your stories. Join our movement."

Call for Entries Details: The call for entries for the first edition of BIUFF is officially open as of today, October 15, 2025. Independent filmmakers, screenwriters, and photographers can submit their works until December 15, 2025, via the festival's official FilmFreeway page. Selected works will be screened at the festival's physical event in Berlin, where the awards will be presented to the winners.

About BIUFF: The Berlin International Underground Film Festival (BIUFF) is a global platform and cultural movement based in Berlin, dedicated to the discovery, celebration, and support of independent, defiant, and uncensed cinema.
