Beyond the Moving Image: BIUFF Opens Its Arms to Screenwriters and Photographers

The Berlin International Underground Film Festival (BIUFF), emphasizing its mission to support all forms of fearless storytelling, announces its official call for entries for unproduced screenplays and photographic works, in addition to films. This approach distinguishes BIUFF as a comprehensive platform for independent artists working across different mediums.

The festival believes that a powerful story is born on the pages of a screenplay long before it comes to life on the cinema screen. For this reason, competitive sections for "Best Feature Screenplay" and "Best Short Screenplay" have been established to discover talented writers and introduce innovative narrative concepts to the film industry.

Furthermore, understanding the power of a single still image to tell a complete story, the festival's photography section will be held in two categories: "Best Photo Series" and "Best Single Photo." BIUFF is seeking photographs that capture the rebellious spirit of underground cinema in a frozen frame and challenge the viewer.

Amir Morsali, the festival's founder, stated: "A revolution in storytelling doesn't only happen on the screen. It can start with a bold sentence on a page or a stunning image that captures a hidden truth. At BIUFF, we value the entire creative ecosystem, from the initial idea to the final execution, and we aim to be a sanctuary for all these voices."

BIUFF once again highlights its supportive policy: with a single submission in a main category, artists will be automatically considered for all relevant awards, including thematic and special honors.

The call for entries is open until December 15, 2025.
