Over the past months, the Berlin International Underground Film Festival (BIUFF) has moved through a period of interruption and reflection. While public activity remained limited, substantial work has been taking place behind the scenes.

Our immediate focus is clear: to complete the first edition of BIUFF in a way that reflects the values this festival was built on — artistic independence, transparency, respect for filmmakers, and a commitment to underground cinema.

In the coming days, every filmmaker who submitted to the first edition of BIUFF will be contacted directly by email. This message will include further information on next steps, upcoming opportunities, and concrete details for the continuation of the first edition.

BIUFF was created to provide a platform for unconventional voices, independent creators, and films that exist outside the traditional structures of the cinema industry. That mission remains unchanged.

As we move forward, our priority is not speed — it is accountability. We believe that meaningful progress requires careful planning, realistic commitments, and respect for the trust filmmakers have placed in this project.
