artificial dreams

Omar Jiménez is a Mexican filmmaker and creative professional based in Mexico City. His background is in audiovisual production, design, creative direction and post-production. After working for more than a decade in these fields, he began developing his own fiction projects. Artificial Dreams is his first independent short film as writer and director, combining his interest in science fiction, visual storytelling and emerging technologies.

Artificial Dreams started as a small personal project and became my first experience directing an independent short film. I wanted to tell a science-fiction story, but from an emotional point of view rather than focusing only on technology.

The film follows Valeria as the strange behavior of an experimental robot begins to connect with memories she has tried to leave behind. Through that relationship, I became interested in exploring grief, fear, memory, and the way technology can sometimes reflect very human emotions.

Making this film was also a learning process for me. From writing and directing to developing the visual world and the robot itself, every stage involved experimentation, mistakes, and discovery. More than trying to give answers about artificial intelligence, I wanted to leave the audience with questions about what makes us human.
