BIUFF Expands: Festival Upgraded to 3-Day Event
The Berlin International Underground Film Festival (BIUFF) has officially announced a strategic expansion of its inaugural edition. Following an overwhelming global reception and an influx of high-quality submissions, the festival has been upgraded from a limited screening to a comprehensive three-day physical festival.
To accommodate this significant expansion, the festival dates have been rescheduled to March 12–14, 2026.
Festival Directors Livia Lück and Amir Morsali jointly announced that this decision was made to provide a platform that truly honors the caliber of the independent works received. They emphasized that the new format will allow for more in-person screenings, networking opportunities, and a wider celebration of underground cinema in the heart of Berlin.
Deadline Extended to January 20 In light of these developments and to offer a fair opportunity to filmmakers who wish to be part of this expanded edition, the final submission deadline has been extended to January 20, 2026.
The festival management noted that the extension also ensures a more rigorous judging process for the high volume of entries. The selection process is currently underway in parallel with the open call, and the committee is working to curate the best lineup for the three-day event.
Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their work via FilmFreeway before the final cutoff to join the "Cinema Without Permission" movement.
