Shut Your Trap!

Luis Ramos is a Mexican audiovisual creator with a degree in Communication Studies from Universidad Autónoma de Occidente. His work spans fiction, documentary, and one-minute films. His short film Día de Suerte won the 2024 IMCA Proyecta International Film Festival. Shut Your Trap! received Third Prize at the 34th Croatian One-Minute Film Festival and has earned recognition at festivals worldwide. He has developed PECDA Sinaloa-supported projects, including Alas de Lona and Hunter, and collaborated with National Geographic and Zoomin.TV. He also teaches workshops and gives talks while continuing to create independent films with a personal, contemporary approach.

Shut Your Trap! was born from observing how everyday corruption is learned before it is fully understood. I chose a child’s perspective because children see, hear, and absorb everything, revealing the contradiction between what adults preach and what they actually do.

Using the girl’s voice for the adults’ dialogue emphasizes how distorted values are quietly passed down. Rather than judging, the film acts as a mirror, showing how cheating, favors, and abuse become normalized through repetition. Black and white represents observation and distance, while color marks the moment when the girl stops watching and begins to act.

The film does not point fingers at individuals, but exposes a collective dynamic in which silence becomes an unspoken rule for survival. Shut Your Trap! is an uncomfortable satire about what we teach without realizing it—and how silence itself becomes a form of education.
